Durva's Travel Diaries: Exploring Turkey!

Whirling Dervish Performance

When asked about the major highlights of Turkey, this is what Durva had to share.

As you would have noticed by now, I am an avid traveler and do take my holidays seriously. As a result, we travel for all birthdays, anniversaries and long holidays as well as short. Some destinations that I pick for long stays are those that I do not otherwise travel to and are off the beaten track.

One such holiday was to Turkey. A month in any resturant or cafe over dinner. White robed followers of Rumi, perform this meditation being geographically well situated with the straight Bosphorus, Istanbul became the trade route between Europe and Asia. It is still known as Eurasia with people looking like European given to their features but with an undercurrent of an Asian Islamic culture.

The highlight of Istanbul was the whirling dervish performance of the Galata museum. One can otherwise catch a glimpse of the dervish a as they whirl and forget their sorrows. This was the origin of the whirling dervish dance which now has been contemporarised to current environment. But a trip to Istanbul without the whirling dervish is incomplete. Another highlight is the famous Pedestrian street which is filled with quick paced young people walking past a line of hip of cafes on both sides. This is the most happening, buzzing and thriving street of Istanbul. At five times during a day, the trumpets at the mosques blow as a call out to the seekers to remind them to pray. Exploring the magnificent shores of the Bosphorus in Istanbul with a Bosphorus Cruise Trip also definitely worth a mention. There was a lot to explore in the land of the turks and I wasn't disappointed even once. It was a trip worth traveled.
